What is Meditation?

Meditation is one of the most positively transformative things you can learn in your life. It has helped countless millions since it first started in India many thousands of years ago.

Every year more and more scientific studies show that learning to meditate and practicing consistently can lead to dramatic improvements in one's mental and physical health, self-esteem, emotional and qualitative intelligence and perhaps most importantly - happiness.  Some studies have even shown how meditation can change the structure of the brain for the better.

One may ask "How can meditation be of any help for me?" 

It will be a unique experience for each person, but here is one example of what it did to me: One day when in graduate school (2002) I went to the library to study, and I was happily surprised to notice that my studying abilities had increased remarkably; I had never been able to sit and study for very long but this time I was able to sit for 5 hours straight and absorb everything I read!  But the next time I went to study, my efficiency dropped by nearly 100% - in 4 hours I barely read 4 or 5 pages.  I was stunned.  What happened?  I suddenly realized that he other day I had meditated early in the morning before the study session.  This personal evidence really fuelled my enthusiasm to meditate more frequently, more consistently.  And thus my graduate school experience was much less stressful and much more productive and inspiring than it would've been otherwise.

  • Increased compassion (especially towards oneself)

How it works:

Meditation is very simple, not easy, but simple - there are many kinds of meditation, but the foundation of them all eventually ends up involving becoming comfortable with silence and observing the mind, increasing one's awareness of the present moment.  It is essential, however, to practice consistently.  Focusing on the breath is quite a useful anchor since there are usually no emotional issues attached to it, and because the breath only happens in the present moment.  Eventually, with consistent practice one can attain a quieter mind.  This is my personal experience with it, and I know it's true for anyone who practices consistently.

Meditative hyper-awareness is this state you have previously experienced when listening to soothing music, when being in the ZONE when playing sports, when cooking a wholesome meal, when gardening, etc.  However, when you learn to meditate you can summon this calmness at any time, without depending on specific phenomenon to occur.

  • Available to teach Online and in person meditation to individuals, organizations and companies.

Private Meditation Classes

  • Price: Private classes 500kr for 1 ½ hours. Group prices determined by number of participants.
  • Frequency: Lessons are once or twice a week, but students should practice daily.
